The comments are on point with her. Completely senile and unhinged. Expects complex civil cases to get to trial in a year, unrealistic expectations. Maybe it's time to retire?

One of three or four worst judges I've encountered in 30 years.

One of three or four worst judges I've encountered in 30 years. She is clearly suffering from cognitive decline. She cannot keep the parties straight. The worst thing so far for me is that she advanced a hearing to the day of an ex parte and refused to give us any time to file an opposition. But there are others. She has almost no respect for a lawyer's other litigations and arbitrations when scheduling trials and hearings. When setting a trial she does not care to hear that the date will not give you enough time to prepare for a trial. She refuses to listen to how long the lawyer says a trial will take. There is more. She does not belong on the bench. Stay away from her at all costs.

I would rate Judge Meiers a zero if that were possible.

I would rate Judge Meiers a zero if that were possible. I have appeared before Judge Meiers multiple times in my current case, and in each appearance I have observed a consistent pattern that is deeply concerning. The Court routinely cuts off argument, does not permit counsel to fully be heard, and resolves matters without allowing meaningful advocacy. Judge Meiers conducts proceedings in a manner that reflects an inflexible approach to decision-making and an unwillingness to engage with opposing legal arguments. Attempts to clarify the Court’s reasoning or address perceived errors are met with hostility rather than judicial consideration. Based on repeated personal experience, I have found that the Court is particularly dismissive toward younger attorneys and, in practice, female attorneys. Motions argued by male colleagues are noticeably received with greater patience and latitude. As a result, I would strongly caution counsel appearing before Judge Meiers to consider carefully who presents oral argument. Additionally, the Court has demonstrated a willingness to issue sanctions sua sponte, including in circumstances where motions were properly noticed, legally supported, and brought in good faith. This creates a chilling effect on advocacy and discourages attorneys from bringing legitimate matters before the Court. My concern is not disagreement with adverse rulings, judges rule against parties every day, but rather the apparent absence of procedural fairness and meaningful opportunity to be heard. If this approach continues through trial, it raises serious questions about the fairness of the proceedings.

I have been practicing for over 35 years and I have had the "pleasure" of appearing in front of Judge Meiers on several occasions. I can say without reservation that she is the worse judge that i have ever appeared before. Based on my most recent appearance before her, I believe that she is suffering from diminished capacity. Even though she has been on the bench for nearly 40 years, in my last appearance recently, she asked her judicial assistant is they use the Grand Avenue address or the Hill Street address for the Court. For those who have not been practicing long, on January 22, 2000, the courts consolidated and the municipal and superior courts became one. At that time, the Court discontinued using the Grand Avenue address which had been used for the municipal court. Apparently she forgot that the Hill Street address has been the address for the court for the past 25 years! Then to further illustrate her diminished capacity, when her judicial assistant advised her that the Hill Street address is to be used, she asked her judicial assistant, "what is the Hill Street address?". How in the world can a judge not know the 111 N. Hill Street address when she has been sitting in that courthouse for decades???? Plain and simple, she is "out to lunch" and she should not be hearing any cases. Why she has not been removed from the bench is beyond comprehension.

Judge Meirs has been consistently described as incompetent, displaying a shocking lack of understanding and respect for the law. Her rulings often appear to be based on fabricated facts, which undermines the integrity of the judicial process and erodes public trust in the legal system. Such behavior is not only unprofessional but also poses a significant threat to the fair administration of justice. Moreover, Judge Meirs has been noted for her rudeness and malicious conduct towards litigants and attorneys alike. Her courtroom is a hostile environment, where her disregard for decorum and civility is palpable. This type of behavior is unacceptable for any member of the judiciary. I strongly urge anyone assigned to Judge Meirs to immediately file a 170.6 to disqualify her from their case. It is imperative to take this step to ensure that your case is heard by a judge who is capable of delivering fair and impartial justice. Run.

Judge Meiers is NOT a judge but a bitter woman who is all over the place.

Judge Meiers is NOT a judge but a bitter woman who is all over the place. She clearly does not like the work, does not read papers, ignores the law, berates attorneys, extremely rude and short tempered and is completely unsuited for the position. She ought to do the ethical thing and resign. why nobody complains against her in a formal manner?

If you’ve already appeared before Judge Meiers and she was nice to you, great, stick with her because you could literally punch opposing counsel right in open court, and she would nod at you and say “nicely done.” To everyone else, if you’re assigned her then IMMEDIATELY file a peremptory challenge (form LACIV 015) to escape the insanely unfair way she runs her court. If she doesn’t like you or your client, your case is DEAD ON ARRIVAL. And I’ve been before judges who are unsympathetic before, but she is a whole other level. If the facts are in your favor, she misstates the facts and rules on her incorrect summary of the case. If the law is in your favor, she’ll pretend to go back in time to decades before binding precedent was set and completely ignore a published opinion of controlling authority. I also agree with other commenters here that Judge Meiers sometimes (not always) appears confused and completely unprepared for court, much less your case. RUN RUN RUN. If you’re reading this and you’re already stuck with her (i.e. too late for a peremptory challenge) then hiring a court reporter to get all her batshit craziness on the record is your best option. Also, assume you’re going to lose and start preparing appeals and writs in advance.

In my opinion, completely incompetent and one of the worst judges I have dealt with in 15 years of practice. Paper this judge immediately. Unfortunately I believe she is mentally incompetent. Not sure how she is still on the bench.

Rude and does not conform to normal court proceedure.

Rude and does not conform to normal court proceedure. Gave defendant more than just one bite of the apple. Gave defendant the whole apple and a glass of wine to wash it down with. We were supposed to have a jury trial but we did not get a jury trial and there was no motion or waiver of the jury. Defendant did not comply with discovery yet was allowed to present discovery. This Judge is terrible. I believe she may have some mental issues. It is too bad that judges are allowed to be on the bench without any medical evaluation.
