~HORRIBLE judge!! Couldn't make a decision so sent me and my ex to mediation. Cost me almost $900 and then ended back in court and had me and my ex try to settle it with his clerk in a conference room! Doesn't deserve to be a judge. Perhaps that's why he got moved out of family division

As an attorney, I am appalled at Judge Cagan's general lack of knowledge and the inability to act professionally. He presided over three of my friends' and two of my colleagues' divorces. With each proceeding, he proved to be worse that the one before. It is fitting that he was removed from family court. He is angry, probably at his own inability to grasp logic. He fails to read any submissions or listen to attorneys' arguments. I have watched him and am horrified. With one of my friends, who is pro se, he admonished her for not having an attorney. When she advised that she could not afford one and that her husband was in control of the bank accounts, he said that she was dumb, and that after 30 years of marriage she should have her own bank account. He told her to get an attorney anyway. Thankfully her case was transferred. With another case, he followed no guidelines, and awarded money without any documentation. He yelled at the litigants and the attorneys and never allowed anyone to make an argument. Thousands upon thousands were spent on the preparation of the motions and he clearly read nothing. If he doesn't want to do the job, no one is forcing him to do the job. It is sad that regardless of how many negative reviews and complaints are made against him, he continues to be employed by the Monmouth County Vicinage. A careful review of his decisions, especially those that were made after he learned of his transfer, should be conducted. I understand that this is a burden for the court, but shouldn't justice, not an ignorant man's decision prevail?

Judge Chad Cagan approaches the bench, he spends about 30 minutes making a proclamation (speech) wasting court time, he loves the sound of his own voice. When he has individuals that both have attorney's and should be handled first, he could care less. It doesn't matter how early your attorney files his/her certification he isn't going to read it. He reads as he goes, he does not read well. He comes off confused and misses crucial details. He totally disregards domestic violence or proof of child abuse, he is pro white, wealthy male father despite his decades of drug use, proof of molestation of a child, he only cares about the litigant that is wealthy,male and white. He believes all women are after a man's money, that is all he see's and in his rulings he cites cases where women seek a man's money even when that is not the motive whatsoever for the particular case he is trying. He doesn't look at the ages of the children in fact he doesn't even mention the children he doesn't know how many children you have, their ages, their gender... He favors out spoken aggressive attorney's and he rules on these attorneys accusations without the burden of proof. If this is your judge and you are battling a rich white narc, he is going to ruin your life. I have read that he allows abusers to continue to have contact with children even when there is an extreme burden of proof, the consequences are documented for his bad judgement, one case a child was almost beaten to death after he denied the validity of a mother's claims. He is a mess, he has made my life a living hell.

Doesn’t even get basic facts correct on record,, Ill informed to the detriment of children, does not enforce court orders despite relentless custody interferences by parent, run don’t walk away from that toxic family court before you loose your children Dangerous to families dealing with parental alienating behaviors.

Dangerous and ill informed Judge, can’t even get the facts straight, part of the problem not the solution in the failing Monmouth County Family Part, I’ve listened in on many of his cases & he further adds to the permanent separation of children from legal guardian parents.

Crusty Crab Cagan needs to retire. He acts like a big baby, throwing a temper tantrum. He reads off the laws as fast as he can like anyone can even understand him. He should be absolutely ashamed of himself & I honestly don’t know how he sleeps at night. He has absolutely ZERO compassion for victims of domestic violence. He let the abuser get away with even more abuse. Both white men… coincidence? I think not.

Looked confused had to keep looking things I put in my motion because he didn’t read it. I lost a lot of time with my son because of his incompetence. Then he tells me to be patient 7 months of not seeing my son and I have to be patient. Try reading a motion for a change! If you are a DAD and he’s your judge head for the hills.

Ill prepared, great at quoting laws but not upholding them. He sucks up to the lawyers and if you don’t have one he speaks down to you. Made a decision in my case that made no sense. Don’t know where he got his law degree Facebook U.

Ruled on things that make absolutely no sense. They go against common sense. This “ judge” was confused on a previous ruling . He never read my motion, and was extremely disrespectful and thought he was smart quoting laws that made no sense. If you are a dad and this guy is assigned to your case you might as well not show up.

Claims to base decisions strictly on facts meanwhile he is bias and clearly focused on emotion. Defendant was late to the only court appearance without reason or extenuating circumstances and still granted him a pass to proceed. Defendant had two months to file a counter but waited until the court date after a failed attempt at mediation to grant an unnecessary adjournment. Upon returning for the second attempt at court, defendant was late again and once again granted a pass to proceed after I had waited for several hours with my attorney. Forced into mediation again only to later proceed to which emotion dictated his version of events and disregarding all factual evidence against the defendant and prior history of non-compliance. Worst experience thus far with family court.
