I can't say enough positive things about my experience trying a complex civil case before Judge Doran. He (and his staff) were the most professional and harding I have ever come across in over 30 years of practice. His decisive and informed rulings combined with humor and candor makes it a delight to be on trial with him. He is a law man, and he is exceedingly fair. He bent over backwards to get consensus and consent on most important rulings and when there was no way to get a consensus - he made the call based on the law, no matter which side it helped or hurt. I found that I was reasonably restricted in the latitude I was given to explore the "other similar instances" of my product liability case. He easily should have let me go further, but he did not want to create any perceived prejudice to my adversary so he kept me narrowly tailored. He cared about gettig it right and he was not afraid to work. He was also extremely caring and compassionate when interacting with my client during settlement efforts - which failed. Just a great assignment. I wish every Judge I appeared before was like Judge Doran.
