One of the few judges in Manhattan Supreme that I geniuinely like and respect. He's smart, diligent and fair. Has ruled against me, and for me, and in all cases I understood. Reads the briefs, listens to counsel, is respectful and pleasant. Unfortunately he'll probably be elevated to an appellate court, where he will be great but missed.

Judge Lebovits is a treasure, truly a unique member of the NYS or any judiciary. It is for this reason, among others, that I am slightly frustrated to see him still listed on Robing Room (despite my efforts to correct the record) as sitting in an unspecified "Criminal Court" when, in fact, he has been hearing CIVIL cases as an Acting JSC, in the Supreme Court, N.Y. County, for many years. My short appraisal of Judge Lebovits is as follows: he has NO betters and NO peers. If you care about the justice and/or becoming a better lawyer, start by spend 10-15 hours reading Judge L's scholarship. Slowly. It's not only highly enlightening, it's FUN. Maybe start with his appreciation of the writing of Chief Judge Kaye, Z'L (July 2021). Maybe. His scholarship is almost incomprehensibly vast. Truly a Judge's Judge. The other nuggets from his 500+ (?) published books, columns and, essays: "Free at Last from Obscurity: Achieving Clarity"; 2015, works.bepress.com/gerald_lebovits/282); "Holocaust Houdinis"(condensed); 2018, same /330/.
