J. Channing Bennett

I've appeared in front of Judge Bennett a handful of times and have been very impressed. He seems to work hard to get the right answer, and he does not show favoritism towards the prosecution or defense--he encourages the parties to bring and make their arguments. He expects you to be prepared, and for that reason, prosecutors and some defense attorneys generally don't like him, but I would be happy to be assigned to him any day.

Extremely biased and favoritist toward the state. Opposing party didn't answer a motion for PI for 50 days, and the court initiated ex parte communications and asked, "hey, are you going to answer? Or should we grant the motion?" Court also stonewalled me when I tried to get it scheduled 24 days after filing, "Time hasn't run for their reply yet". Yes it did. 10 days ago. Judge grants opposing state counsel extensions without just cause (state admitted, "we overlooked it. Didn't see the documents till just now. We confirm that it was served. Our mistake." Since when did "negligence" and "just" mean the same thing? Judge also rejects requests to appear remotely even though he "MUST" grant it if asked. Do yourself a favor and file a motion to disqualify the second you see his name is assigned to your case.
