He likes to send people to prison regardless of the facts being presented in court. One less black man off the streets to him in my opinion. He sentenced my kids father to 8 years strictly on written statements from drug dealers, and addicts. The FBI and marshalls couldn't present anything he asked them TOO in court. Gwin even gave the agents more time to try and conger up a bunch of nothing, and he still sentenced my fiancé to almost a 10 year sentence. Don't waste your time writing character letters to him, because he does not care. Now me and my children are struggling. I hate judge Gwin.

I have only observed Judge Gwin in one (civil) case, but in that example, he was flagrantly biased against the corporate defendant. His clerk did him no favors either, making several errors about the relevant law.

Fully engaged in sentencing issues. He's become something of the house scholar on the subject. The more complex, the better he likes it.

He's a good judge and right down the middle in civil cases. Also, he's quite good at encouraging settlement. If you have a case in front of him, however, be prepared to move quickly. He sticks by dates and doesn't alter the schedule absent a compelling justification.

Excellent, prepared, respectful, fair, applies common sense, is governed by the law and not influenced by bias or sympathy either way. Non-activist.
