July 2018 I attended a settlement conference handled by Magistrate Cott. I am a black female Marine veteran, I hold a law degree, and the facts of my case include misconduct committed by a law school and several attorneys at the school where I reported being physically attacked by a white male on that campus. Magistrate Cott's behavior and comments during the proceeding caused me to fear for my immediate safety, and leaves me with no confidence that black women or victims of white-male misconduct can receive a fair, impartial, and unbiased forum in his court.

Extremely favorable to defendants in civil litigation, condescending to female attorneys, wildly unprofessional in his settlement conferences. Really tries to pressure you and the client to do what he wants. Resorts to ad hominem attacks if you do not agree with his view of your case

Very fair, non-biased, neutral. Excellent job assisting with settlement with parties very far apart.

Recently appeared before him for a discovery conference. Was well prepared and honed in on the important issues and considerations. Thereafter, had a settlement conference with him, and he was excellent, making my client feel at ease with the process. Was fair to both sides and somewhat effective.

I was fortunate to have a personal injury matter set before Judge Cott for a settlement conference. And what a terrific experience. He was focused, worked really hard, and got the matter resolved despite divergent beliefs between the parties on liability and value. Having clerked for a great federal judge, it was nice to see a magistrate that treated all parties with total respect and class.
