This judge is either biased or not paying any attention, or both. Sitting in the Appellate Division, he and his two fellow judges failed to properly calculate the effect of tolling on a statute of limitations period, an easy calculation. Thus, they stated an erroneous limitations deadline date, the central issue in the appeal. Then, they completely omitted from the written decision how they arrived at this conclusion. A written decision that omits reasoning is useless, except as an attempt by a judge to escape accountability.

This person is a shame to the legal system. [Redacted by Ed.] anger issues, which become apparent the moment you see his grumpy demeanor in court. He is notorious for his inability to manage his calendar and for separating families. He is incredibly arrogant and tends to defer to whatever the minor's counsel requests.

This judge ( Judge Jason Clay ) appears to enjoy the prestige of being a a judge but hates the proper practice of law and justice. He DOES NOT read pleadings, he's lazy and is often unprepared for hearing. He pretends to know the substantive issues at hand but he doesn't. He looks for opportunities to dismiss RFOs or simply rely on mediator's recommendations if even they are improper and not in the best interest of the child. There are many great judges in the Alameda courthouse and he is only of the worst. If you are assigned to this judge, promptly file a Section 170.6 because any judge is better than this joker especially if you have a complex case and serious issues at the hand but require a hard working judge with critical thinking skills and thorough knowledge of the law.

He seems to be always cranky. He is a mess in his writings and his rulings are sometimes unpredictable and against the history of the case. He only treats lawyers with some respect but rules against fathers most of the time.

This is a biased, angry, and anti-fathers judge. He is unable to manage his cases timely. Even if you have the best lawyer, he will give the kids to the mother regardless of what you do.

Bias pro man, dismissed exhibits (Police files, pictures, etc) and made calculations with a minor amount other than what was proven per the own parties, in order to benefit the other side. Mismanaged my case among others I personally witnessed. However, coincidentally all the rulings were to make the women prove themselves while to the man, this judge takes their allegations as fact with no evidence to support it. Despicable and definitely he’s part of the problem in this broken system. Someone that worked with criminals in regular basis shouldn’t be handling family matters.

He's a piece of [redacted]. Rude disrespectful, no compassion, seems to hate life. Makes me want to vomit having to say Honorable in front of his name, because there is NOTHING honorable about that person. EXTREMELY rude, yet expects you to kiss his ass.

Horrible bench demeanor. Appears and acts very angry in all proceedings. Favors prosecution and is very inflexible. No or little compassion for others. Never smiles and is very unapproachable. Completely different when he was an attorney.

What you see is what you get with Judge Clay. If you appear before him a couple of times, you can likely predict how he'll respond to the matter you have before him. He always seems to be in a cranky mood though - I just wish he'd crack a smile, or a joke, sometimes? I think he has a well-rounded understanding of the law; if he even hesitates, he will find out the answer. I appreciate his determination on making accurate rulings.
