Judge Brock has since stepped down from her judgeship, but I have so much respect for her that I want to leave a comment to convey my experiences with her. I worked for many years with Judge Brock, and sat through at least a few hundred hearings, of which many I was a party to the case. Judge Brock was a fair and compassionate judge, and at the same time she was a concise and articulate advocate for the standards set forth by the state statutes which dictated my role. Judge Brock was great about making sure she helped defendants understand what was happening in each court hearing, and she made sure they understood clearly what her orders meant and what would happen if they went against said order. I loved that she would staff cases prior to the hearings themselves because it allowed all involved parties (State agencies, attorneys, service providers, etc) be heard. That being said, Judge Brock maintained integrity and ruled based on the law. I asked her one time if she ever struggled to make hard rulings. She was a consistent and honest gatekeeper, and I felt comfortable to seek clarification in any event that I was uncertain of her expectations. Getting to work with Judge Brock changed my life. Her passion for specialty courts, her appreciation and knowledge of trauma, and the hope she inspired in defendants helped me become better at my job, and gave me an invaluable opportunity to learn and grow as a professional and as a person. Judge Brock will forever be held in the highest of esteem to me. Thank you for your unwavering service Judge Brock. Thank you for leaving Kay Co. better than you came into it.
