Excellent judge. Great demeanor. Well versed on the law, probably stemming in part from his previous criminal and civil litigation experience. He is very fair to litigants.

Biggest problem is that it takes months and months and months to get a ruling on a dispositive motion. Definitely the "slowest" judge in the district.

Joe Bataillon is a fantastic jurist - his scholarship and commitment to his community are exemplary.

Here is a judge who likes trial work, and who wants to see good lawyers try a good case (and obtain a just result). He will reward you for being prepared (although he has little patience for the unprepared), so just do your work and you will be treated fairly and respectfully.
