In my opinion, Judge Julie Mata failed to properly consider critical evidence presented in our family court case.

In my opinion, Judge Julie Mata failed to properly consider critical evidence presented in our family court case. I experienced the court as impatient and biased, while serious issues such as Rule 49 discovery violations, parental alienation, false accusations, and violations of joint legal decision-making were allowed without meaningful consequence. A formal complaint outlining these concerns in greater detail is forthcoming.

Overall terrible experience and will be requesting a new judge. This judge should not be in family law. I don’t have an experience outside of family law with this judge but I can tell you this person is not for the best interest of cases that involve children. As a previous comment read. Request a new judge!

The US~Observer (usobserver.com) is investigating allegations that Judge Julie A. Mata, Maricopa County Superior Court, has relied on material (e.g., social media posts) not formally introduced as evidence in court proceedings, as highlighted in a March 2025 complaint filed with the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct. This raises concerns about adherence to Arizona Family Law Rule 6, which requires decisions to be based solely on admissible evidence presented in court. If you have experienced similar issues with Judge Mata using non-evidentiary material in her rulings, we would greatly appreciate hearing about your experience to aid our investigation. Please share relevant details or contact the US~Observer at 602-960-4609 or michael@usobserver.net. Thank you.

I once observed Judge Julie A.

I once observed Judge Julie A. Mata handle her courtroom with class and dignity in a case that should've been simple, but was made complex by the counsel's litigious filings. Counsel called 911 on a subpoenaed witness because his client through a hissy fit, but after Judge Mata called counsel into her chambers, counsel opted to not have the subpoenaed witness separated from the courtroom during witness testimony. Counsel reportedly brought a loaded weapon to court that day, it was a mess. Judge Mata was the gold standard of judicial conduct, keeping everyone safe from the nutty counsel and ensuring justice was served.

Wonderful judge with an honest, informed, and fair perspective. Judge Julie Mata has upped the bar for high-quality and thorough case evaluation. I trust her to look at clear evidence presented and not base her judgments from a biased opinion. Extremely professional & ethical. She fights for the good and fair people.

A disgraceful person to ever be in any authority role over other people’s lives.

A disgraceful person to ever be in any authority role over other people’s lives. Judge Mata abuses her power and doesn’t look at the situation or what is being presented by both sides she is very quick to not only judge but make it very obvious that her decision was made from the start. Just terrible!

David Gingras, an Arizona attorney, appears to be undermining the integrity of the family law justice system through his actions and statements. His behavior, as demonstrated in the post below, raises concerns about ethical standards and professionalism. Notably, he fails to disclose that he was the one who filed the judicial complaint against Judge Mata. Additionally, he omits the fact that both he and his client, Laura Owens, who has questionable credibility, were responsible for posting the negative reviews. It is my hope that the Arizona State Bar reviews his online conduct and takes appropriate measures to address this matter.

David Gingras is a dimwitted ninny. Ignore the reviews below. I pray he gets disbarred soon. I appeared before Judge Mata - With a real attorney, not some douche who thinks he's Connor McGregor when hes actually a sad snot-rag. She asked insightful questions, kept a firm control on the courtroom, then made a well reasoned legal decision.

***WARNING*** AVOID JUDGE JULIE MATA AT ALL COSTS!

***WARNING*** AVOID JUDGE JULIE MATA AT ALL COSTS! Do you have a family law case in front of Judge Julie Mata? If so, you need to IMMEDIATELY exercise your right to have a new judge assigned to your case. Judge Mata is currently the subject of at least one pending Complaint filed with the Arizona Judicial Conduct Commission accusing her of using information from the Internet to decide a case. Another reviewer on this site claims Judge Mata used a Google search to look up information about a SNAKE which resulted in the judge taking custody away from the father without any other basis. If you want more information about how to exercise your right to a new judge, please visit this page: https://gingraslaw.com/public-warning-judge-julie-a-mata/

Not a good judge. Started off angry and seemed to have her mind made up. Very short hearing. Requesting a different judge for the next time.

Judge Mata has no business judging anyone to decide what’s best for their children.

Judge Mata has no business judging anyone to decide what’s best for their children. She seems to decide who she likes before the hearing even begins and be out rude or threaten contempt if she doesn’t like the facts being presented. The only thing that kept her from forcing her opinion was the child themselves whom got dragged in to tell her the same thing is parents told her and because it was the truth she had no choice but to take that threat of contempt and stick it.

Sadly, you never know which Judge Mata you're going to get.

Sadly, you never know which Judge Mata you're going to get. During one hearing, you may get an attentive and seemingly impartial jurist. In the next, you could get an annoyed, "I'm tired of this case" type of attitude. Once you get the "annoyed" Judge Mata, lookout! In one example, instead of enforcing her own Court Order, she dismissed it altogether with no consequence of it being violated multiple times. She doesn't seem to really be listening to what's being said, especially when the hearing takes place on Teams. It feels as if her mind is already made up based on whether she's tired of the motions or notices filed in the case. And once she's annoyed with you, you're not going to have the chance to be an effective litigator. Not to mention, your subsequent motions or notices, will likely be denied. She is certainly transparent and reactionary with her feelings, rather than thoughtful and contemplative. Even in complex, high conflict family matters, she likes to rule from the bench rather than take the evidence and testimony under advisement and carefully render a decision. That's probably why there seem to be an above normal number of special action appeals on her rulings. The bottom line, the rotation cannot come soon enough. Good luck.

At first Judge Mata seems great.

At first Judge Mata seems great. She seems to have a warm, engaging demeanor. However, it doesn't take long to realize that she either doesn't know what she is doing or is just completely lazy. It couldn't be more obvious that she doesn't read the motions before her, she rules from the bench just to make her job easier, instead of taking the time to actually do what is right. She really seems to not want to be there, to not want to have to think, so she makes cookie cutter decisions not based on the facts of the case. I have heard she has had several of her decisions going to appeal. You would think this might give her a dose of reality to start taking her job more seriously but it doesn't seem to have had that effect. I have had some great experiences with judges in the family court, just not with Judge Mata. Judge Mata, please start caring enough to do your job well. Children's well-being and their entire futures are at stake.

Wow!! The most opinionated, bias and unprofessional judge I have ever had to have contact with.

Wow!! The most opinionated, bias and unprofessional judge I have ever had to have contact with. Not interested in hearing out a MOTHER of almost adult in a long drawn out case that had been ongoing for over 5 years. The judges prior seemed fair or at least just going off the laws they had to work with. One judge even dismissed it finally and after appeals courts this lady just really got in there and quickly threw out her own opinions on many things during the hearing including her dislike for the military weapons because our son was enlisting to the US Military just before he turned 18. I have never in all those years going through so many hearings and judges in the matter seen this unprofessionalism and outward attitude while hearing a case.
