Judge Arleo was an insurance defense lawyer before being appointed, and seems unable to shed her pro-defense orientation. She is generally uninterested in the rules of construction. If you are on the plaintiff's side, you may be in for a rough time.

There is stupid and then there is Judge Arleo. She is an embarrassment to the bench and for the record she recently ruled for me so this is not coming from a place of frustration. [Redacted by Ed.]

I have had matters before this jurist does the minimal work possible. Will never actually handle anything herself and defers everything to her magistrates. Her opinions are the equivalent of a child writing on a place mat at a restaurant. If you have decided to give up private practice at least pretend to be unbiased and actually work.

Judge Arleo works hard (for a judge) and can be effective in settling cases. She is fairly flexible in scheduling particularly if the parties are talking settlement. Her temperament is not the best. And look out if she's chummy with your adversary. But you could do a lot worse.

The Magistrate is extremely pro defense on the civl side. She lacks the impartiality necessary to be an effective jurist. On the basis appearances, I doubt she reads motion papers

Cannot manage her schedule, even a little bit, and the result can be intolerable delay in moving cases and substantive, costly prejudice to parties -- followed by finger-wagging about the calendar. A lot of time spent lecturing counsel and pretending to be surprised that litigation is an adversarial process.

Makes up her mind before she even hears what the attorneys have to say. Horrible decisions - contrary to good law. Very nasty too. Loves to threaten lawyers.

I like her but she can be moody at times and is often late. She makes no real effort to try and settle matters and seems to rely more on threats than anything else.

There is no need for a Federal Magistrate to belittle lawyers or treat them so disrespectfully. It is exasperating to appear before her--has been unaware of facts/history of case more than once. No ability to properly manage and expedite a case. Truly a disappointment to the NJ District Court which has so many great Judges before whom I have appeared for almost 20 years.

Pleasant enough but a true disappointment, which is surprsing given my favorable experiences with her while she was in private practice. From what I can see, she makes little or no investment in getting her arms around a case and thus is of little use in getting anything resolved or moving. Frankly, she seems overwhelmed.

She's in over her head. Never on time, inconsistent in managing discovery, no evident grasp of issues beyond her own practice experience.
