I can’t speak for the civil side of the house, but on the criminal side, he is very knowledgeable and rules accordingly. Very fair judge.

Terrible judge. Issues long, detailed opinions but fails to grasp basic legal principles. I had to go up to the Court of Appeal to get him reversed and the Court of Appeal, without saying so, was flummoxed by how bad his ruling was. 170.6.

Judge Young is intelligent and has an excellent temperament for a judicial officer. He is well prepared and drafts excellent rulings. While I might not have agreed with every ruling in the case I had before him, I thought he was fair and his decisions were well thought and well written.

Judge A Young is the worst judge I had a experience With. He’s very Bias judge and overlooks Law if for some personal reasons , he dislikes either the council or either parties , whether Defentent or the Plaintiff, he’s definitely not belonging to be a judge He destroyed my life , for no good reason and he judge me and my case , without even overlooking the case status and ruined my life till the end of my case No one should be placed with him as a judge. He’s a total phsycopath.

One of the worst judges I have ever seen. Writes long, extensive tentatives but doesn't seem to grasp the fundamental legal issues involved. Had a very easy, unambiguous contract provision, which he re-wrote, claiming it was "his interpretation." Court of appeal reversed. The Justices based on their comments, not only reversed, but were "surprised" by his ruling. He's a 170.6.

Often these comments are "sour grapes," i.e., the party that wins, loves the judge, the party that loses, hates the judge. I try to be more even-handed than that. However, I have to agree with most of the comments below. 170.6 him immediately. I am not sure if he has no understanding of the law, just does what a research atty writes, or doesn't care, but you get the picture. California Supreme Court authority directly on point. He could care less. Even plaintiff's counsel thought it was funny, because he too knew that I was 100% correct and the judge was wrong as a matter of law, and wouldn't even listen to reason when I pointed out that the Tentative was based on an erroneous view of the law. He then defended it to me and adopted the tentative. Run, don't walk. Don't think that you will be the exception to the rule.

If you are assigned to Mark A Young, in the Santa Monica Courthouse, run - don't walk - to file a disqualification (170.6). He is ignorant, stubborn, and refuses to follow the law, if the law doesn't fit with his personal biases. GET OUT OF MARK A. YOUNG'S COURTROOM.
