Richard Cebull

I have periodically rated judges using The Robing Room. I am hopeful all of us that do so are objective in our assessments. Yet, I see very positive statements about this judge. Integrity is the most important single qualification of a Federal judge. Do these positive comments about him indicate that even a judge who is functionally good on the bench can can lack integrity in other aspects of his professional life?

Judge Cebull has no ego and handles cases with an even temper and, above all, supreme fairness. You know where you stand and there are no surprises.

Judge Cebull is an easygoing guy. His courtroom is relatively non-threatening and a pleasure to work in (unlike those of his two colleagues). Judge Cebull is unpretentious and unassuming, always remembering that he is a public servant and a former practitioner so that he displays courtesy, common sense and patience (again unlike his two colleagues).

Judge Cebull is very down-to-earth. He is a tough sentencer which has earned him the nickname "ride 'em rough from Roundup" (Roundup, Mt. is his hometown), but he treats the parties and counsel who appear before him with respect and decency. He is refreshingly blunt and to the point. You never have to guess about where he is coming from. He has alot of common-sense and street smarts, which make him well liked by both the criminal and civil bars.
