Robert William Rohm

Judge Rohm was reassigned my case that had been pending for a number of years. He was incredibly kind, as others have said, patient, and proffesional. He was able to settle my case that had been pending for years, and had a trial date set in just a few weeks. I am very appreciative of his efforts and deference to me as a pro se litigant.

He is a very good judge and he has supervised my sons case for over a year but it is not fair that he all the sudden he isn't .

First off, the last person that posted is wrong. That was the judge in room 4015 that got moved to traffic court and is still there, not Judge Rohm. Rohm is in 4017, where he's been for a couple years, and he is still there, not in traffic court. That said, Rohm is an excellent judge, albeit with some flaws. He's extremely fair, compassionate, hard working, conscientious and smart. My preferred judge in that particular criminal division. However, he definitely does not take anyone disrespecting him or his clerk lightly. He will drop the hammer in those situations. In my opinion, a bit too harshly. Also, he is less likely than most to give a defendant additional time to complete whatever they were supposed to have completed. He does need to improve in these areas, in my opinion. Also, he is sometimes a little bit impatient. But all in all, he's an asset to our judicial system.

Terrible judge . Does not have the judicial temperament or ability to reason. Makes impulsive decisions out of anger and ego. There is a reason they moved him to traffic court. He still is terrible there too.

Last week Judge Rohm refused to give court supervision to a first offender on a DUI charge. The defendant was eligible for court supervision, but he received a conviction instead. This is very rare, in my opinion. Now, this particular defendant crashed his car into the back of a 24 year old girl's car, causing her to lose consciousness for several minutes, while blood gushed from her head. She now suffers from severe PTSD. First offenders receive court supervision in almost all cases. This should not happen, and it doesn't in Judge Rohm's courtroom. We really, really need more judges like him. I was so hoping he would put this criminal in jail. I think he almost did, but ultimately did not. Honestly, I could see the anguish in his face when he decided not to put this criminal in jail. My only criticism is that he should have.

Yesterday he sentenced a crying young girl, with an otherwise unblemished record, to the minimum sentence allowed by law. Nevertheless, she was still uncontrollably despondent. He said to her: "It's ok. You are way too strong and way too smart to let this define you. You are better than this and you can't ever let something like this happen again." "I promise," said the young girl. The very next person, who had multiple priors, 3 I think, was next to appear and Judge Rohm unapologetically sentenced him to 6 months in jail. This is exactly what we need from a judge. Empathy, understanding, and kindness. Emphasis on the kindness.

To those who questioned the decision to move Judge Rohm to the criminal division, you were wrong!! Especially the harsh criticism from the most recent poster, who recklessly and erroneously slandered the entire 18th judicial circuit. The "powers that be" actually do know what they're doing. I can't comment on him as a law division judge, as I was never before him when he was there, but I have been in front him on a regular basis since he has taken over the 4017 call. Excellent judge. Kind, empathetic and smart.

I have never posted on a site like this but felt I needed to vent. I just appeared, via Zoom, for what was supposed to be Judge Rohm's call. Well, not any more. I have completely lost my faith in our local judicial system. They moved him to a criminal courtroom. I don't believe he has any criminal law background. At least, I don't believe he does. Instead, I knew him as a civil attorney for more than 15 years before he took the bench. What the hell is going on in DuPage County? Who the hell is making these ridiculous decisions? What an absolute waste of talent. Judge Rohm is known to be an extremely intelligent person, so I have no doubt he will excel wherever they ill advisably put him. But shouldn't these decisions be made in the best interests of the residents of DP County? Shouldn't the best civil judges preside over a civil courtroom? Obviously NOT!!! That would make way too much sense. Extremely confused and pissed about this move.
