Seems to be a friendly but not industrious judge who does not know or does not research the law. No tentative rulings. Rules by feel at the hearing, and hit and miss as to whether that follows the law that applies. No statements of decision on MSJs after the fact, no tentative rulings either, just up or down on the day of the hearing without reference to explanation or law that you can track or use for appeal. You will be well served by CCP 170.6 unless you have a weak case that will benefit from not applying the law to it.

The comments made about this judge are spot on. [Redacted by Ed.] He did not understand the legal doctrine in front of him, and he obviously did not read the complaint. He wasn't the slightest bit aware of the facts stated in the complaint. He decided to sustain the defendants' demurrer without any statement from the defendants who brought the action. He is as dumb and unqualified a judge as there is in Los Angeles and that is saying something.

Judge Byrdsong goes with his gut. He pays no attention to the law. He seems primarily focused on his Court avoiding any work.

A definite 170.6. Academically dishonest. Ignores laws that conflict with his side. Will waste your time. Arrogant to boot.

I read an article and court papers where he went to a courtroom where his old firm was representing the plaintiff and made it know to that trial judge and jury that he was rooting for his old firm to win. Ethics issues. He routinely does this.

Do not under any circumstances, take this judge. He is mentally lazy, not very sharp, has no respect for your time, and does not prepare. He tries to skim motions from the bench because he hasn't read them and to do so, he only reads one side, not the other. Very poor judge who should not be on the bench

In a case involving somewhat complex legal issues, he did little analysis of the law presented and rushed to a summary conclusion.

Kangaroo court. Defense oriented. Extremely biased. Favors big firms. 170.6.
