Judge Spiegel is the finest judge I have ever appeared before in 33 years. He tries hard to get it right, will listen to lawyers, and will allow them to try their case. Very aggressive in seeking settlements. Wise, experienced, and a pleasure to appear before. He still works harder as a Senior Judge than most and takes on the toughest cases. He put Pete Rose in jail. His memory remains remarkable and superior to most you will meet. He is a very quick study and usually a chapter ahead of all counsel. Do not miss the opportunity to appear before him. Few exist of his calibre.

On senior status Judge Speigel has a lighter case load than otehr judges. Can be difficult during trial if he does not like the way you are trying your case. Because of his involvment in several civil suits involving City of Cincinnati Police and excessive use of force and variosu training issues, it is obvious he does not have much respect for Cincinnati Police. His hearing loss can be a problem at times. He also seems to repeat himslef alot during pretrials. Will become very involved in trying to settle civil cases. Very willing to hold govenrment to burden recently granting a rule 29 motion.

This judge is on senior status and thus has fewer cases than in the past. He can be impatient on trial with the lawyers. He believes he knows how you should try you case and has no problem expressing that in court. On the other hand he is even handed in this regard. His hearing loss can be a bit of a problem.
