Not very knowledgeable on the law or procedure. Tends to lean towards her favorites. Does not seem to have a grasp for trial practice. She is corteous and has a very pleasant personality.
Very good judge.
Judge Carreño is a superlative judge. Intelligent, patient, courteous to lawyers, decisive, and compassionate. I had a civil jury trial with her and she was very evenhanded. She knows the rules of evidence well and will not be bullied or misled by overbearing lawyers. She has an excellent temperament, is always in a good mood, listens carefully, has a sense of humor, never disrespects anyone, and is firm in her rulings. She is fairly scholarly and enjoys researching novel legal issues. She seems somewhat conservative in her social attitudes, yet is an avid environmentalist, a protector of animals, and sympathetic to gay rights. Her respect for the rule of law is tempered with compassion and humanity. I only wish she were an Article III judge.
