Somnath Raj Chatterjee

Overall Judge Chatterjee is even tempered and does not get caught up in small details. He does not give in to litigious attorneys and stays above the fray. He is ideal for a judge and likely can handle complex matters. I have only appeared in one case and found that it was a worthwhile endeavor with all parties happy with the outcome. I wish more Alameda County judges were like him but unfortunately most have giant egos.

If there is any reason to lose faith in the justice system, then it would be because of Judge Chatterjee. He often issues rulings without citing the adequate laws to back up the rulings. He even attempted to punish one side with sanctions when they attempted to file a motion, just because the other side opposed and requested for it, again without citing the legal justification to do so. It raises the question as to whether or not he is actually paying attention to the letter of the law, or ruling based on how he felt. It's a great thing that he has since left Dept 16 - a much welcomed end to this nightmare.

The absolute worst. Ill informed, opinionated, biased against In Pro Pers (especially good ones!), smartalecky, disrespectful, untimely, disorganized, and thank heavens he is leaving Dept 16 in 2 days. :)
