Very surprised to see that one star rating, as I have been before Judge Counelis on a speedy trial motion, and was very impressed by how he handled the entire hearing. There is no question in my mind that he is as unbiased as you can get, and very smart on the law. Before my motion, I had observed him on a previous motion hearing years earlier, that being a motion to vacate a conviction. This judge is the best draw in Riverside if you have a valid motion, no question about that, as he knows the law and is not hesitant to rule consistent with the law. He is NOT one of those judges that does not read the motions filed, or the responses, and simply wing it before ruling for the prosecution. He does what he is suppose to do, which makes him an outstanding jurist. If you get him on a motion hearing, thank your lucky stars.
