Thang Nguyen Barrett

Absolutely awesome judge in Santa Clara County, where so many on the bench are sick, insecure and arrogant, pathetic, human trash cans. He is fair and doesn’t roll over when cops break the law and lie - he will rule against them - which may be shocking to many non lawyers, but know that so many empty robes will not find for the defense no matter what.

I have a courtdate at the hall of justice at 2/28/2024 at 1:30pm in department 51 for my subpoena sexual assault felony.

At first, Judge Barrett was somewhat fair and friendly, or at least professional, but lately he has become very critical of defense counsel and frequently takes the prosecutorial position, as if he is a European style prosecutor/ judge rather than American judge. He punishes clients sua sponte on his own motion, without even giving defense counsel an opportunity to respond, instead of maintaining a fair and balanced role as neutral arbiter. He never forgives nor forgets. Instead, he angrily singles out certain defense attorneys who he takes exception with, making them wait longer than others to conference cases, reprimanding them for being zealously advocating for their clients, and lecturing them on how to do their job. DAs can do no wrong with him, as he seems oblivious to those who are hostile or unreasonable with defense counsel, as if his rules only apply to the defense. I agree with the reviewer below and Barrett's rating would be lower if the one near the bottom who said he was the worst had accurately scored him. In short, AVOID!
