Zilly meets with wanton federal probation officers before sentencing offenders and believes whatever is said to him behind closed doors, then walks intop thbe courtroom with predisposed opinion and judgment and then pretends that he is being fair. What a joke.
Zilly is a generally fair and reasonably pleasant Judge. He gets cranky easily, but does not seem to have a god complex. He is frequently wrong on the law and this does not seem to bother him. He really likes to move the evidence along and will dismiss things that he does not think are germane during trial to your detriment. Be tenacious and make your record - you may have to come at issues from several angles before he gets it. He issues decisions quickly and is prompt and timely - so his calendar isn't a wreck and he is fairly flexible with scheduling.
Why are two of the positive comments virtually identical? That's a rhetorical question, by the way. Civil Litigation - Private Comment #: 4568 Writes: "Judge Zilly is a thoughtful, hard-working, and deliberate judge." Other Comment #: 5000 Writes: "Judge Zilly is a very hard working, thoughtful and fair judge with an abundance of common sense." Give me a break!
Judge Zilly is, I believe a Senior status Judge. My experiences with him have always been very good. He is a pleasant, but firm, judge.
Almost the stereotype of a bad Federal judge. Pompous and never, ever wrong about anything.
Extremely fair. Even keeled. Hard working. Doesn't allow parties to waste time or make a mockery of the court process. Allows the attorney's to heard but makes fair decisions based on actual law, not conjecture.
One of the worst Judges out there. He has allowed his clerks to make the call on important cases. Very vindictive.
I really enjoy Judge Zilly - he doesn't have "robitis." He has not lost his humanity and is a very decent jurist.
A disaster. Seattle's version of Manuel Real. Particularly vindictive. In one maritime case, after issuing a series of unclear discovery orders, he imposed termination sanctions on a Seattle maritime firm and then had the opinion posted on the court's website for months.
