Wendy Coats

I had unfortunate experience with this judge: she is deeply misogynistic, obnoxious, and doesn't know law. She appears on the list of terrible, unfair, misogynistic judges at the Mom's Battle page, as she is widely known to favor abusers over protective parents. I am not surprised anymore that this judge still "judges," as there is a pattern in Contra Costa County Court to have total lawlessness and corruption in its court rooms. This judge ruined my life; moreover, her shocking decisions affected one of the parties in my case who took her own life after seeing how unfair the California court rooms are. There should be an investigative journalist looking at Coats' cases and writing an article about her, as she is a destroyer of families and of lives: of children's lives and adults' lives. Somebody mentioned the Commission on Judicial performance - I complained at least 3 times to them but they barely slap a wrongdoer's hand. I am willing to talk to a journalist about my case... and I am sure there are other litigants deeply affected by this horrid, uneducated, [Redacted by Ed.] judge called "Wendy Coats."

Has no consideration of a child’s best interests. Constantly is disruptive and extremely disrespectful during court proceedings. I had over 6 witnesses there whom all observed her being one sided and used biased judgment towards our DVRO hearing and had made all of our lives a living nightmare. She has prolonged court proceedings just for monetary gains while trying to maintain a “safe” environment yet lets the children be in the most unsafe and vulnerable environment. She is only here to bolster her own agenda and cause and it is a complete disgrace to our court system.

I’d give 0 starts If that. She is NOT interested in the child’s best interest what so ever. Only cares about her precious Ego. She needs to be stripped of judicial jurisdiction immediately. Gives reason to the abuser if she does not like the defendant. Flips a switch once all observers are no longer present in the court room. She has to be on someone’s radar by now. I cannot imagine all the harm she has caused innocent children and families in the years she’s been a Judge. [Redacted by Ed.]

This woman (you can't really call her a judge since she's been relegated to the lowest class of decision-maker) represents all that is wrong in the justice system. She is incompetent, a true idiot, childish, immature, vengeful, without morals, and plainly a nightmare to have to listen to. She makes her mind up like a 13 year old girl by looking at the parties and whomever she likes more that day. Following that, she won't abide by any rules of evidence, court process, or other frameworks, and she will disallow evidence, cut people off and scream if anything gets in the way of her fragile ego or feelings. It's quite possibly the worst display of justice that I've ever witnessed and I've been a practicing attorney for 13 years. This woman is a disgrace of a human being and I hope she faces consequences for ruining the lives of everyone on this site and otherwise. If you are unfortunate enough to get her, do everything you can to change and realize that she doesn't care about the law or truth but only about her own pride and ego. She shouldn't be alive with how evil this maniac is but that's life I suppose -- the worst of us focus on accruing short term power to heal our own wounds.

How do I make a complaint about this Judge? She gives special treatment towards the individual that commit domestic violence. She doesn’t care about the kids. She’s very biased! It’s unbelievable she babies the individual that caused the domestic violence. Lastly, she won’t allow you to prove that the other party is lying. When there is proof!

I had this judge two years ago and she ripped my family apart! I get these notices and every time my heart goes out to another person affected by her. She had a news article written about her code of conduct in the courtroom! She was taken out of family court , thank god! But now is in charge of domestic violence and restraining orders for Contra Costa County ! Please follow through and make your statements heard! File a report with the Commission on Judicial performance. Judge Coats you’re a horrible judge!

Judge Wendy Coats! My God this judge is horrible! She is only a restraining order Judge. So I’m these today for my restraining order. She started asking me where am I staying. Why would she ask me that in front of my kids father. I literally had to move because my kids father is on drugs, he got shot a month ago thereafter he was driving his car and he crash the car. He abducted my son a sped off with him in the front seat with no car seat. There were skid marks and the police found my son and arrested him. I didn’t want to date him anymore the guy told me there’s only one way out of this. I fear for my life and my sons. She asked me well do you have a job? I said I’m a college student. She asked her what school do you go to and what are the times. Sounds like to me she wants my ex to know where to find me. Him and his family came into court smelling like weed. Stepmom wearing pajamas and they came to court late. It’s like she was mad at me because in my paperwork I stated I’m taking pre med classes. She didn’t ask him any questions. He was so shocked when she said he gets custody starting tomorrow for four days. Then two days then four days. His criminal history is so bad they tried to convince us on break to let’s just drop it we don’t want these people in our business. I asked the judge my son is part of the restraining order right? She became even more pissed and she didn’t answer. Just began shuffling papers. I just read her reviews and she treated me horrible and my God she has a history of this. Something definitely has happened to her in the past. The reason I say this is because there is no way you give custody to an individual that is fighting criminal cases. This man did time for drug trafficking to another state! Did 6 months on a first time offenders program. With 10 years probation in which you can’t have a felony. She is the biggest joke of a "judge" I've ever seen. Quite possibly the dumbest, most incompetent, evil imposter I've ever witnessed. She needs to be stopped before she ruins the lives of more children and parents. Her very presence is a stench in the CCC judicial system.

Negligence one sided and had no confidence in her decision. Judge coats allowed my ex to make the decision in her ruling as she asked her three times. She said she was siding with my ex based on the amount she spent on her attorney! Kangaroo court with a kangaroo judge. These liberal judges think they are above the constitution. I have never committed a crime yet was treated as a criminal for fighting to get custody. This judge disgusts me and is a disgrace to all judges. She should be removed

Judge Coats is the worst of the worst. She represents insanity, incompetence, foolishness, selfishness, immaturity, abuse of power, and plain chaos. She revels in the abuse that she does to people as a way of getting back at men for never allowing her ugly, fat ass to succeed in Hollywood. Disgusting in every way.

Also, just to be clear, I was using the "lit on fire" below as a metaphor for burning trash, not as a signal that anyone should do harm to this judge or threaten her physical body.

I can't explain how biased, stupid, narrow-minded, arrogant, abrasive, ugly and evil this woman is. She brings dishonor to the entire court system. She got demoted from the family courts to only handle DV matters because of how incompetent and biased she is.

[Redacted by Ed.] My case with her was back when she was in the family court, civil case. On a support hearing. Before a hearing, I believed in the justice in America but since I seen it with my own eyes, I believe that judges like her should be permanently removed from the bench. My case started when my ex false accused me of domestic violence. Fortunately for me the DV hearing was with a different judge that retired now, a just and fair judge. This judge caused so much harm then good just because she is ignoring everything. At the time I was making about $40k /year. My ex was making about $30k/year. Due to the restraining order (1year) I lost my job. I showed the judge that I lost my job. She ordered me to look for a job( fair). No problem. Her discriminatory behavior started when I couldn’t afford an attorney. I had to represent myself at the next hearing. This racist and discriminating judge, changed her story and ordered me to pay $3000/month on support. Unbelievable. I couldn’t afford to pay anything since we have 1 child that we have 50/50 custody. I failed for an appeal( documents not sent to my attorney yet since 2022). Since then and because of the discrimination, I ended failing for bankruptcy and the federal court discharged everything except the support. Currently the DCSS after me to pay $70k and since I can not afford that. DMV revoked my driving license, dca denied my state license for work. I am back again to lose my job but this time I will be losing my kid as well since I can not provide food for him. Nb: my ex was married to me just for documentation. She planned all this and accused me of DV 5 days after her citizenship ceremony. Judge like this one ruining families and kids lives. This judge should be in jail if it was a fair justice system.

JUDGE IS THEE WORST JUDGE YOU WILL EVER COME ACROSS, I RECENTLY HAD A CASE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RESTRAINING ORDER BECAUSE MY KIDS FATHER WAS MASTURBATING INFRONT OF THEM, IN THE SAME ROOM IN THE SAME BED AND SHE DID NOT SEE THIS AS ABUSE. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD A FEELING I WAS GETTING INTO MY KIDS HEAD AND THAT I WAS PUTTING THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THIS , EVEN AFTER MY 13 Y.O WENT TO TESTIFY AND SAID EVERYTHING THAT HAD HAPPENED. SHE SAID IT SOUNDED TO HER LIKE I WAS CONTRADICTING MY SELD SHE MADE IT SEEM LIKE I WAS THE BAD ONE WHEN IN REALITY THE OTHER PARTY WAS THE ONE CAUSING ALL THIS TRAUMA. SHE WOULD LET THE OTHER PARTY TALK BAD ABOUT ME AND BASH ME AS A MOTHER BUT WHEN IT WAS MY TURN TO TALK SHE WOULD CUT ME OFF AND TELL ME IT WAS IRRELEVANT TO THE CASE, THAT SHE DIDNT CARE ABOUT THINGS I WOULD TRY TO MENTION ABOUT THAT WERE RELEVANT TO THE CASE. SHE DENIED THE RESTRAINING ORDER AND AFTER GAVE THE FATHER THE OPTION TO PICK AND CHOOSE THE DATES HE WANTED TO SEE MY KIDS. HOW CAN SHE SAY THIS ISNT ABUSE.ABUSE IS NOT ONLY SEXUALLY IS PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY.MY KIDS DONT WANT TO VISIT THEIR FATHER , THEY DONT FEEL COMFORTABLE AND SHE IS FORCING THEM TO GO. FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND AFTER READING ALL THESE REVIEWS, IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE SHE DOESNT KNOW WHAT SHE IS DOING. SHE IS PUTTING KIDS LIFES AT DANGER. SHE IS RUINING PEOPLES LIFES CAUSING TRAUMA TO KIDS.SHE IS RACIST , HER FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND THE WAY SHE TALKS TO THE ATTORNEYS AND THE PARTIES PRESENTING THEIR CASES IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. SHE IS TERRIBLE, SHE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THIS ROLE. SHE DOES NOT PRACTICE JUSTICE, SHE IS UNFAIR.SHE MAKES THE WRONG DECISIONS.

Great judge. Listens to both sides and makes a judgement based on facts. She protects children from drug addicts with domestic violence in the household. She is calm and levelheaded.

Although she seems fair and competent at first, she quickly forms an irrational (emotional) opinion that makes her bias for unknown reasons. She has emotional reactions, from my perspective to women, and rules against the protected party if she doesn’t like you. Without a lawyer you don’t stand a chance. If she doesn’t like your lawyer you don’t stand a chance. She is highly opinionated which is displayed by being overly nice to men and reactionary and rude to women. She says thing like, “you only filed 3 pages” when in fact you have court certified filings of over 27 pages. If you are late, she marks you as a no show. If you make a mistake on a court date your are discredited in Her eyes. She asks a question the. When you try to answer she gets irritated and says “why are you still talking.” To have had a therapist, police and judge all support your abuse claim, only to have this Judge treat you with disrespect and shut down anything you say, is abusive. Having a protected party pay for the attorney fees of the abuser when protected party couldn’t even afford an attorney for herself is criminal. $7500 awarded to abuser for his attorney fees after dismissing my request for a restraining order. I felt humiliated and hopeless, causing me to avoid trial, because I could already tell she was bias against me and nothing I said would change her mind. To then appear and have the abuser who makes twice what I make and who is $63,000 in child support arrears awarded $7500 in attorney fees? This is how protected parties give up. Bias judge. Ultimately hurts children by penalizing a mom who was kicked repeatedly in the presence of her daughter at a therapy office. It’s shameful.
