This is true Judge Chen is not fair to Chinese plaintiff. He purposely rules against Chinese plaintiff, regardless of whether they are legally correct.
Best described as having the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job. Lets attorneys make their arguments and keeps an open mind. Judge Chen sets the standard. Fair, incredibly bright , great temperament. This man sets the standard and is by far the best judge in the NDCA
Edward Chen is one of the most biased, intellectually dishonest judges I have ever encountered. However, if you're representing a crooked corporation, Chen is your guy, as he will find a way for you to win regardless of the facts and the law.
Very fair and smart judge. Does not show bias to either side. Was well prepared for MSJ hearing and let both sides state their arguments.
Absolutely fantastic Judge. Best on the Northern District by far. Has no leanings one way or the other. Only worry is for his staff--given how hard he works, they must be working around the clock.
Magistrate Judge Chen is fair, incisive in his reasoning, patient and pragmatic. Reasonable about scheduling, and sensitive to legitimate needs of parties and counsel, while not at all wishy-washy. Overall, an excellent jurist in every respect.
To whomever posted comments 9020 and 9026, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Just because you're Asian doesn't mean Judge Chen should agree with you unquestionably. Judge Chen is fair, open-minded and patient. His judgment has been excellent. He has a long trackable history of decisions. While an armchair quarterback might take apart a few cases they don't agree with, it is beyond dispute that he is well-qualified and an asset to the Justice System.
Judge Chen is not fair to Chinese plaintiff. He is snobbish and racist. He against his own race. see Complaint of Judicial Misconduct No. 07-89078 What Magistrate Chen allegedly did was pervasive twisting of the facts and record to fit his conclusion. Does such pervasive twisting raise an inference of misconduct? Or is such pervasive twisting merits related? Edward Chen does not represent the Asian American community, nor does he represent justice in the court room. He bases his rulings completely on whichever party has the most money and power, not on legal standards. We cannot blindly support Chen because he is Chinese. He does nothing for the Asian community, and if you look closely at his rulings, he purposely rules against Asians, regardless of whether they are legally correct. Obama must remove him as a magistrate, not promote him to be a District Court judge.
He is the one Magistrate Judge I would wholeheartedly suggest for patent cases. Not only was he fair and reasonable, he wrote a detailed and thoughtful opinion and was willing to entertain a telephone CMC to alter case scheduling when appropriate. I would not be surprised if he were on the short list to fill Article III vacancies on the bench.
Judge Chen's legal acumen is unparalled. He is a fantastic judge who finds unique solutions. He is a fair jurist who will treat parties equally.
