Judge Wu made a huge error in judgement regarding ALSSCAN vs. CLOUDFLARE and gave the green light for Cloudflare to become the largest criminal CDN. Judge Wu was more concerned about the content in question. Cloudflare is a huge problem

Wu will ignore common sense and perform mental gymnastics to impute facts that don't exist and ignore documentation of evidence to accept defendants' baseless assertion.

Judge Wu is intelligent and fair. He is not your typical "prosecutor in a robe". As an expert who testifies throughout the country, Judge Wu is well prepared, reasonable, and cordial. One of the best in the Central District.

I have a robust federal court practice from the plaintiff's side. I am familiar with every judge in the Central District. Judge Wu is just terrible. Other than Percy Anderson, Judge Wu is the worst in the district. He decisions are not fair and balanced but strain to find the outcome he desires. He ignores case law that does not favor his ruling-does not even attempt to distinguish it--and frames the issues in a way that almost makes you laugh if it were not so painful.

I agree with the other reviewers. He used to be good when he was in state court. But as a federal judge, he’s prolly the worst in the district and has become a lawyer for the defense from the bench. Per Westlaw, the judge grants more defense motions than any other judge in the districf . He tries to get rid of cases.

Thinks he is charming, but is really lazy, don't be surprised if he regularly does not understand what your papers say, misquotes or ignores your case law authority even after repeated hearing on the same issues. A review of his record in the 9th Circuit shows repeated reversals. He is pro defendant in civil cases and want everyone to settle so he does not have to make decisions. Pompous.

One of the laziest Judges ever in the Central District. More worried about clearing his docket than accomplishing justice. Puts form and procedure over ruling on the merits of a dispute. His is unfair and lacks any social consciousness. If they allowed a 170.6 challenge in Federal Court, his Courtroom would be empty.

Civil Defense Attorney's Dream, very indecisive Judge. Had 5 hearings on MTD as he whittled the case down. Then had 4 hearings on Class cert., after 4th hearing, he told Defendants that he would certify the Class if injunctive relief in the form of labeling changes wasn't agreed to within 2 weeks, he would certify the Class. Defendants agreed, so Judge Wu found the case issues Moot and dismissed Plaintiffs case without awarding attorneys fees. Death by a thousand cuts...simply Unjust.

I had Judge Wu for a trial. I can honestly say that it was the best experience that I have EVER had with a judge. We all know that most judges can get wacky in trial. Not Judge Wu. He was 1000% fair. Best of all, his temperament was absolutely perfect. He did not morph into a judicial ogre once the trial started. Rather, he ran the court like he was just a normal guy. He joked with counsel, ruled the way the law required, and just had a FANTASTIC attitude. Words cannot explain just how great it was to try a case in front of a truly neutral judge who had no concern for his own ego. Every lawyer deserves to experience this once in their lifetime. If you have Judge Wu, then you are in great shape.

He has a great courtroom demeanor. He truly loves the give-and-take of oral argument. He's not some egomanian sitting on the bench, rather, her likes to have truly good discussions about issues. Very, very likeable judge, very intelligent, and just a good person. Wish all judges were like him.

Judge Wu is a very straight shooter when it comes to his decisions, and pretty much goes with whatever the 9th Circuit case law dictates. I would be careful about trying to push the facts of the case too far or trying to game the system in any way. Can be indecisive at times. I had a motion to dismiss in front of him and the tentative agreed that the case should be dismissed, however the tentative also raised an issue which neither party had raised in their papers. Judge Wu stated that while he was inclined to dismiss the case, he allowed the Plaintiff the opportunity to submit an offer of proof on the issue before deciding whether or not to adopt the tentative. It seemed pointless as the Plaintiff had already submitted all of the relevant evidence in his opposition. Also, he is very punctual and sometimes takes the bench a few minutes early, so make sure to be on time.

As good as a judge gets. Incredibly fair and reasonable. Runs his court more like a prudent businessman than an arrogant judge. I have had several cases with him. He is truly very fair and is willing to reason during oral argument.

Judge Wu has a reputation among some federal prosecutors of being very lenient when it comes to sentencing in criminal matters, as well as being very arrogant on the bench. My experiences confirm this. If you are a criminal who is convicted by a jury and the day of sentencing comes, you would be very fortunate to be standing before Judge Wu. You won' get a better deal anywhere.

I have an education law case before Judge Wu and represent the Student. After reading other comments about his pro-govt stance I thought I should include the fact that in our case, he has ruled in favor of Student, and against the government (school district) and an appeal has been filed by school district. I agree he likes to interrupt, could barely get two sentences out in argument, but he is that way for both sides as least. I found that he applied the law fairly, and came to the correct conclusion given the law in our case. Judges are often predisposed against the type of special education due process appeals I frequently file in the district court. He treated us fair, and ruled in our favor on an important issue on appeal from the OAH. I did not find him to be mean. I found him to be conscientious, he knew the case, he was prepared, and had a pleasant demeanor. I disliked how he kept allowing follow up briefs and hearings instead of just making a decision. Afterwards he stuck with his ruling. However, he failed to make a clear Order and failed to clearly state what the scope of remand to OAH is, which was disappointing and now motions to clarify are needed. But overall for special education cases, I give him a thumbs up. Far better than Carter (terrible in special ed cases), or Pregerson or Wilson, etc.

Get ready. In civil cases, this judge acts as co-counsel for defendants. Makes arguments for them, sometimes so absurd that not even the defendants have made them. It is as if some of his crankier colleagues teased him about smiling and being too friendly in the courtroom, so he has decided to make himself over to be more mean. If you happen to be in a courtroom waiting for your case to be called and witness him handle criminal matters, you may be lulled into thinking he is a fair, decent jurist. He appears somewhat sympathetic to criminal defendants and understanding of social issues dealing with them, even showing mercy (or making statements that show empathy) even at sentencing. But do not in any way be fooled --- such empathy totally goes out the door in civil cases. In private litigation his annoyance with plaintiffs shows, he asks straw man questions , does not focus on issues that do not support his pro-defense stance and maddeningly, does not let you respond to his questions -- it is not at socratic, which one can appreciate even if it challenges you, but is actually bullying. He isn't one of those federal judges who are so bad that you want to do what you can to get back to state court --- yet --- but it seems that he is trying to be a member of that awful kind of old boys club. A disappointment on so many levels. If you represent regular decent people harmed by Goliath in some way, get them ready because this judge will thwart their chances at justice.

Loves to hear himself talk. If you get 5 words out before he interrupts, you're doing well. Too many status conferences, which runs up the bill.
