Judge Pappert shines as a hard working and smart judge, who is consistently affable to counsel. I had a case before him -- and although he did raise the issue of settlement during the pretrial conference-- he respected the defendant's decision that settlement was not an option. He then allowed the parties over two and a half hours of oral argument to address legal issues on dispositive motions, after which he provided a detailed and thorough opinion. I keep an eye on the posted decisions on the Eastern District web site, and week after week, Judge Pappert provides decisions on motions, which are replete with legal and factual analysis (and happen to be extremely well written). I wish there were more judges like him.
