Jay C. Zainey

Judge Zainey is the quintessential federal judge. Hard working, compassionate, smart and not afraid to make tough decisions. Not sure how he operates in the criminal arena, but on the civil side he is fair and calls balls and stikes.

I want to express my great disappointment in this judge's ruling on the Halliburton case. It seems that we have a kind of ruling class, that take care of each other, stack the law to support just those people, and ignore the real meaning of integrity and honor. Each new day my sense of hope for humanity dwindles when I read these things.

I've had one plaintiff case in front of him, and to my surprise he ruled in my favor on a motion where I thought he would not take the time to read up on the many cases that made up our theory - one that overturned (well - made an exception in) an incorrect overbroading of Federal law. I was impressed...and not because I won, but because he bothered to read what we had to say. That is all I ask sometimes.

I have had two civil matters before Judge Zainey. One was for a plaintiff, the other for a defendant. My experience was very much contrary to the prior rater. I found him to be both knowledgeable and evenhanded. In fact, he went further out of his way to move each matter to a fair and expeditious end than has been my experience with most of the judges in the district.

Didn't know the law. Overruled objections in front of the jury but would correct the mistakes before the jury was reseated. Mannerisms indicate his opinion of the case and/or the witness, client, etc. Biased in favor of civil defense counsel.
