Criminal Defense Lawyer: We just had a mediation before Judge Anand in a case I thought it was…
We just had a mediation before Judge Anand in a case I thought it was absolutely impossible to resolve through mediation. In addition to the distance between the parties on a number for resolution, we were representing a prisoner (at the request of another federal judge in the district) who had very strong feelings in his civil suit against correctional officers. Judge Anand spent almost an entire day listening and making suggestions, being spoken to directly by the client in a manner in which federal judges are not accustomed. Judge Anand stuck with it and, without in any way being coercive, managed to get the parties to agree to a settlement which was very fair. I did not know anything about Judge Anand, other than that a fried spoke highly about him He was right. One of the best before whom I have appeared based on this experience. I have no experience with him in a criminal case so cannot opine in that area.
