Honestly, I wish that Judge Davis would be considered for SCOTUS. He is the most patient, courteous, and diligent Judge I have ever seen, and he cares about getting the law correct.

Really outstanding judge. I do not agree with him politically and he seems to identify with institutional interests but he will listen to you and decide cases on the law rather than any bias that he has. He has a sense of humor and is a humble person. I love this judge.

An outstanding trial judge, excellent scholar and fine human being. If we are all lucky he will go to the 4th Circuit. I have tried long and complex civil cases with him and have litigated numerous hotly contested pre-trial and discovery motions. He is consistently excellent in all phases. He knows the law sometimes better than the lawyers and refuses to let things become uncivil. I do not agree with many of his political views and don't always like his decisions, but he is even handed and sticks to the law. I always feel that I have gotten a fair hearing. I have won close questions that I expected to lose and have lost close questions that I expected to win. Usually he rules the way prepared and informed attorneys would expect. All of this tells me that he consistently gets it right.

The state court's loss is the federal court's gain. A truly decent human being. Considering his lack of criminal practice as a lawyer, he learned quickly. Treated defendants as individuals - which could be very good or very bad, depending on the offender and the offense. Very even-tempered, and well-liked and respected by all non-attorney court personnel. Do not mistake his kindness for weakness. Attorneys who demean opposing counsel, witnesses and parties will face consequences.
